Andreas Sophocleous
Andreas Cl. Sophocleous graduated from the Pafos gymnasium and
the Paedagogical Academy of Cyprus. He studied Geography at the
London University and completed an MA in Mass Communication at
Denver University/USA (Fulbright scholarship). In January 1995
he got a PhD from the Department of Communication and Mass
Media, Panteion University, Athens. His thesis is titled "The
contribution of the First Cypriot Newspapers (1878-1883) to the
Protection of Human Rights of the Greeks in Cyprus". He has been
Director of the Press and Information office of the Republic of
Cyprus. He is a member of many professional and scientific
unions in Cyprus and abroad and has participated in many
conferences and international meetings. He has published
articles and books on the Cypriot political issue,
Communication, Mass Media and Geography. Since 1995 he teaches
Communication and Journalism at Intercollege, Nicosia as an
associate professor and is conducting research on the History of
the Cypriot press.
