Mary Dyson
Senior Lecturer in the Dept of Typography & Graphic
Communication, University of Reading, UK. She studied
experimental psychology leading to a PhD in perception, and now
teaches Electronic Publishing and various psychological aspects
of typography and graphic communication. Her main research area
is screen legibility, conducting experiments into typographical
factors which affect reading from screen. She has been involved
in various work evaluating technology from a user's perspective,
including multimedia in museums, online access to collections,
and web sites. In her teaching, she has developed material for a
Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), which is used to supplement
lectures. This work together with supervising two research
students investigating the design of VLEs, has led to the talk
to be given at the conference.
