Klimis Mastoridis, as Chairman of alterVision, typography & visual communication, founder of Typophilia Publishing and Director of the University of Macedonia Press has in the past thirty years supervised many print, editorial and information design projects, having acted as editor and publisher as well as typographic consultant to government bodies and large private firms. He has played a leading role in Greek typographic education and research, through teaching, writing, publishing an international journal, and organising major conferences. He is the only Greek among the small group of PhD holders in the field of Typography & Graphic Communication. Klimis was responsible for the academic part of the first-ever international conference about typography held in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1992 and is the initiator of the idea for the International Conference on Typography and Visual Communication (ICTVC). He is the author of the books Reproduction and printing issues (1988) and Casting the Greek newspaper (1999) and editor of the journal Hyphen, a typographic forum. 10:30-11:00	Lending grace to the design language of cities Άρτεμις Γιάγκου \| ΕΛΛΑΔΑ Η Άρτεμις Γιάγκου (PhD, www.yagou.gr) είναι ερευνήτρια και καθηγήτρια του σχεδιασμού. Είναι αναπληρώτρια διευθύντρια του μεταπτυχιακού προγράμματος MA in Design του ΑΚΤΟ (ιδιωτικό κολλέγιο, Αθήνα) και μέλος της συντακτικής επιτροπής του επιστημονικού περιοδικού Journal of Design History, ενώ συστηματικά δημοσιεύει και παρουσιάζει τη δουλειά της διεθνώς. Τα τρέχοντα ερευνητικά της ενδιαφέροντα περιλαμβάνουν τις χρήσεις του εθνικισμού στο σχεδιασμό, την εκπαίδευση του ντιζάιν, την ιστορία της ενδυμασίας, καθώς και το ντιζάιν σε συνάρτηση με την ιστορία της τεχνολογίας.

11:30-12:00	Προσδίδοντας χάρη στο χρόνο: Η οπτικοποίηση της διάρκειας για την ύπαρξη και τα γεγονότα στο παρελθόν, το παρόν και το μέλλον Ευριπίδης Ζαντίδης \| ΚΥΠΡΟΣ Ο Ευριπίδης Ζαντίδης είναι Επίκουρος Καθηγητής στο Τμήμα Πολυμέσων και Γραφικών Τεχνών του Τεχνολογικού Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου (ΤΕΠΑΚ). Κατέχει μεταπτυχιακό τίτλο με υποτροφία από το University of Kent (UK) στη Γραφιστική και τις Καλές Τέχνες, πτυχίο στη Γραφιστική Επικοινωνία από το University of Wolverhampton (UK) και δίπλωμα στην Ηλεκτρολογική Μηχανική από το Ανώτερο Τεχνολογικό Ινστιτούτο της Κύπρου. Έχει παρουσιάσει και δημοσιεύσει θεωρητικές μελέτες σε έγκυρα διεθνή συνέδρια με θέμα την Εκπαίδευση της Γραφιστικής, την Τυπογραφία και την Οπτική Επικοινωνία. Με διακεκριμένο έργο έχει λάβει μέρος σε διεθνείς μπιενάλε και παγκόσμιες εκθέσεις τέχνης και ντιζάιν. Δίδαξε για δώδεκα χρόνια στην ιδιωτική τριτοβάθμια εκπαίδευση της Κύπρου. Υπήρξε μέλος σε διεθνείς κριτικές επιτροπές Γραφιστικής και Τέχνης και είναι ο εκπρόσωπος της Κύπρου στην Παγκόσμια Τυπογραφική Ένωση (ATypI). Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα αφορούν στη σημασία της Σημειωτικής στην οπτικοακουστική μετάφραση της προφορικής γλώσσας με τη χρήση εικόνας, κειμένου και ήχου. Ασπασία Παπαδήμα \| ΚΥΠΡΟΣ Η Ασπασία Παπαδήμα είναι Λέκτορας στο Τμήμα Πολυμέσων και Γραφικών Τεχνών του Τεχνολογικού Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου (ΤΕΠΑΚ). Κατέχει μεταπτυχιακό τίτλο στις Γραφικές και Καλές Τέχνες από το University of Kent (UK), και πτυχίο στη Γραφιστική από το Τμήμα Γραφιστικής της Σχολής Γραφικών Τεχνών και Καλλιτεχνικών Σπουδών του ΤΕΙ Αθήνας. Δίδαξε επί δεκαετία στην ιδιωτική τριτοβάθμια εκπαίδευση της Κύπρου. Στο παρελθόν εργάστηκε σε δημιουργικά και διαφημιστικά γραφεία στην Ελλάδα και ως καλλιτεχνική διευθύντρια στον τομέα της Διαφήμισης στην Κύπρο. Εξασκεί τη γραφιστική ως σύμβουλος σε σημαντικές αναθέσεις σχεδιασμού. Το ερευνητικό της έργο έχει παρουσιαστεί και δημοσιευθεί σε αναγνωρισμένα διεθνή συνέδρια, ενώ η γραφιστική και καλλιτεχνική δουλειά της έχει παρουσιαστεί σε εκθέσεις στην Κύπρο και στο εξωτερικό.
12:00-12:30	Διαχείριση της χάρης στη γλώσσα Βαγγέλης Χατζηθεοδώρου \| ΕΛΛΑΔΑ Διευθυντής σχεδιασμού της Paragraph Design/Aθήνα. Διδάσκει "Γραφιστική" και "Διαχείριση και Δεοντολογία Σχεδιασμού" στα ΤΕΙ Αθήνας, από όπου ξεκίνησε τις σπουδές του. Κάτοχος ΒΑ (Hons) του Harrow College στο γραφιστικό πληροφοριακό σχεδιασμό και ΜΑ του Central St. Martins στο γραφιστικό τυπογραφικό σχεδιασμό. Έχει συνεργαστεί με διαφημιστικές εταιρείες στην Αθήνα, από τη θέση του διευθυντή σχεδιασμού. Συμμετείχε στην οργάνωση και διεύθυνση του σχεδιασμού της εικόνας και της ταυτότητας των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων της Αθήνας. Με την Paragraph Design σχεδίασε τις μασκότ των Ολυμπιακών και Παραολυμπιακών Αγώνων, όπως και τη γραμματοσειρά τους. Έχει σχεδιάσει εταιρικά και εμπορικά γραφιστικά προϊόντα για ελληνικές και πολυεθνικές εταιρείες και εταιρείες του Δημοσίου, όπως σήματα τραπεζών, συσκευασίες, σηματοδότηση, γραμματοσειρές, τμήμα των περιπτέρων της ΕΧPO 2000 και 2005 κτλ. Συγγραφέας του βιβλίου Ολυμπιακά Εικονογράμματα, Σχεδιασμός και Σημειολογία, Εκδόσεις Παπασωτηρίου.
12:30-13:00	The power of sharing Αλέξης Ζάβρας \| ΕΛΛΑΔΑ Ο Αλέξιος Ζάβρας κατέχει διδακτορικό τίτλο στην Επιστήμη των Υπολογιστών, και είναι υπέρμαχος της χρήσης και διάδοσης του Ελεύθερου Λογισμικού και Λογισμικού Ανοικτού Κώδικα. Τον γοητεύει η τυπογραφία και ο σχεδιασμός γραμματοσειρών, καθώς και η υλοποίησή τους με τα σύγχρονα υπολογιστικά συστήματα. Εργάζεται ως ανεξάρτητος σύμβουλος σε θέματα Τεχνολογιών Πληροφορικής και Επικοινωνιών με έδρα την Ελλάδα, έχοντας συνεργαστεί επί σειρά ετών με ιδιωτικές εταιρίες και ακαδημαϊκούς φορείς. 15:00-15:30	The typography of Cypriot printed ephemera Ανδρέας Σοφοκλέους \| ΚΥΠΡΟΣ Ο Δρ Ανδρέας Κλ. Σοφοκλέους αποφοίτησε με άριστα από το Γυμνάσιο Πάφου το 1958, και από την Παιδαγωγική Ακαδημία Κύπρου με άριστα και με το βραβείο Αρετής και Προόδου. Σπούδασε Μουσική στη Μουσική Ακαδημία Κύπρου (Πτυχίο Ωδικής) και στη Σχολή Μουσικής των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών Αμερικής (Πτυχίο Αρμονίας), Γεωγραφία στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Λονδίνου και στο Πανεπιστήμιο Ουάσιγκτον ΗΠΑ (BSc Geography) και Πολιτικές Επιστήμες στο Πάντειο Πανεπιστήμιο. Έκανε μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές, με υποτροφία Fulbright, στη Μαζική Επικοινωνία στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Ντένβερ, Κολοράντο, ΗΠΑ (MA Mass Communication) και πήρε Διδακτορικό τίτλο από το Πάντειο Πανεπιστήμιο στον τομέα της Επικοινωνίας και των ΜΜΕ. Υπηρέτησε ως εκπαιδευτικός για εννέα χρόνια (1960-1969) και ως Ανώτερος Λειτουργός και Διευθυντής του Γραφείου Τύπου και Πληροφοριών της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας (1969-1995). Από το 1995 μέχρι σήμερα διδάσκει Δημοσιογραφία και Μέσα Μαζικής Ενημέρωσης στο Intercollege (Λευκωσία) και κατέχει τον τίτλο του Καθηγητή (Professor). Αντιπροσώπευσε την Κύπρο στο Συμβούλιο της Ευρώπης ως εμπειρογνώμονας σε θέματα ΜΜΕ και Κινηματογράφου. Έλαβε μέρος σε πολλά συνέδρια στην Κύπρο και το εξωτερικό και έκανε ανακοινώσεις σε θέματα Ιστορίας και Γεωγραφίας της Κύπρου, Δημοσιογραφίας και Μέσων Μαζικής Επικοινωνίας και για το Κυπριακό Πρόβλημα. Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα σχετίζονται με την Ιστορία και Γεωγραφία της Κύπρου, το Κυπριακό Πρόβλημα, την Ιστορία του Κυπριακού Τύπου και την Κυπριακή Λογοτεχνία του ΙΘ′ Αιώνα. Για τα πιο πάνω θέματα συνέγραψε και εξέδωσε μεγάλο αριθμό βιβλίων και δημοσίευσε άρθρα σε εφημερίδες και περιοδικά.
15:30-16:00	Ο Νεοκλασικισμός στην Ελληνική τυπογραφία: Firmin Didot, Giambattista Bodoni, Georg Joachim Goeschen Γιώργος Δ. Ματθιόπουλος \| ΕΛΛΑΔΑ O Γιώργος Δ. Mατθιόπουλος είναι τυπογραφικός σχεδιαστής της Eταιρείας Eλληνικών Tυπογραφικών Στοιχείων και καθηγητής εφαρμογών στο Τμήμα Γραφιστικής της Σχολής Γραφικών Tεχνών και Kαλλιτεχνικών Σπουδών του TEI Aθήνας, όπου διδάσκει Γραμματογραφία και Τυπογραφικό σχεδιασμό εντύπων. Aσχολείται με την καλλιτεχνική επιμέλεια εκδόσεων και την εταιρική ταυτότητα - τυπογραφική επικοινωνία μουσείων και εκθέσεων. 16:00-16:30	Language: between grace and collapse Ιορδάνης Στυλίδης \| ΕΛΛΑΔΑ Το βιογραφικό του ομιλητή είναι διαθέσιμο μόνο στην αγγλική γλώσσα. Iordanis Stylidis is a professor of Architecture. Born in August, 1959, in Edessa-Pella, in Northern Greece. Artist and consept-activist, he is the artists of nine solo exhibitions. He also has multiple participations in group exhibitions arount Europe since 1990. He is organizing, directing or following educational scouting voyages around the earth and multi-national collective design workshops in Greece. Iordanis Stylidis is the author of four books : the “India through Jordan”, 2004 the “Geography of Water”, 2006 the “Memories Transportation”, 2009 and the “Communication and Design”, 2002, a handbook-manual on designing art-books.

17:00-17:30	Περιγράφοντας τον τυπογραφικό σχεδιασμό των ελληνικών αλφαβηταρίων Νίκη Σιώκη \| ΚΥΠΡΟΣ Niki Sioki has worked for more than 20 years in medical publishing as Editorial Manager and Publishing Director. She has been actively involved in research programs concerning Greek academic publishing and the training of professionals working in the publishing sector. She now teaches Book Publishing and Typography in the Department of Design & Multimedia at the University of Nicosia. Her research interests concentrate on the typographic design for children, the relationship of typography and meaning in elementary reading books, book history and issues concerning the contemporary publishing industry. She is currently working towards her PhD at the Department of Typography and Graphic Communication, the University of Reading, UK. Niki's research focuses on the historical development of the typographic design of Greek elementary reading books.
17:30-18:00	'Grace' or 'function': preschool children make meaning by unconventional typography Μαρία Παπαδοπούλου \| ΕΛΛΑΔΑ Μαρία Παπαδοπούλου, Αναπληρώτρια Καθηγήτρια με γνωστικό αντικείμενο «Γλωσσολογία – Διδακτική Πρώτης Ανάγνωσης και Γραφής», Π.Τ.Π.Ε., Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλίας. Προηγούμενη επαγγελματική εμπειρία ως Καθηγήτρια στη Β’ Βάθμια Εκπαίδευση και Ερευνήτρια στο πλαίσιο Ευρωπαϊκών Προγραμμάτων για τη διδασκαλία της γλώσσας και την παραγωγή διδακτικού υλικού για τη γλώσσα. Ερευνητικά ενδιαφέροντα: ανάλυση πολυτροπικών κειμένων, σχεδιασμός και αξιολόγηση διδακτικού υλικού γλωσσοδιδακτικής (εγχειρίδια και λογισμικά), διερεύνηση των απόψεων και των δεξιοτήτων των παιδιών για την κατανόηση γλωσσικών και οπτικών κειμένων.
18:00-18:30	"Μήλο": ένα ελληνικό αλφάβητο Ματούλα Σαραντινού \| ΕΛΛΑΔΑ Απόφοιτη τμήματος Βιομηχανικού Σχεδιασμού με παράλληλες σπουδές στη γραφιστική - σε παρόντα χρόνο οι δουλειές της αφορούν στη διαφήμιση και την οπτική επικοινωνία. Στα τέλη του 2009 ολοκληρώσε ένα μεταπτυχιακό πρόγραμμα στο Πανεπιστήμο Τεχνών της Ζυρίχης στο αντικείμενο της τυπογραφίας. Μια πρώτη της σχετική εργασία θα παρουσιάσει στο 4ο ICTVC.

10:30-11:00	Transformer with a daily deadline Jasso Lamberg \| ΦΙΝΛΑΝΔΙΑ Tο βιογραφικό του ομιλητή είναι διαθέσιμο μόνο στην αγγλική γλώσσα. Jasso Lamberg is an independent lecturer and designer based in Finland. He has worked as a visual journalist in Finnish newspapers since 2000. In the last years he has been designing graphics for Helsingin Sanomat, the largest subscription based paper in the Nordic region. He teaches courses on typography and visual communication at the Lahti Institute of Design. He holds a MA degree in Theory and History of Typography & Graphic Communication from the University of Reading.

11:30-12:00	Letterpress, a revival Jamie Mahoney \| ΗΠΑ Tο βιογραφικό του ομιλητή είναι διαθέσιμο μόνο στην αγγλική γλώσσα. Assistant Professor Virginia Commonwealth University. Jamie Mahoney is the first director of the Bowe House Press, a letterpress studio at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts. She is editor of the publication thINK, a semiannual letterpress student publication. Her work has been recognized The New York Art Director’s Show, The One Show, The Magazine Publishers of America Kelly Awards, Communication Arts and Print. Her designs have also been showcased internationally in British Design and Art Direction annual at the Cannes Film Festival, and in Graphis. She has judged Communication Arts and Magazine Publishers of America Kelly Awards.

A study of lay graphic communication Sarah Owens \| ΕΛΒΕΤΙΑ Sarah Owens received her master's degree in History of Design from the Royal College of Art in London and her undergraduate degree in Communication Design from the University of Applied Sciences Augsburg. She is currently working towards her PhD in Typography and Graphic Communication at the University of Reading. Her principal research interest lies in the sociocultural and philosophical aspects of design, which are investigated by utilising sociological and anthropological methods. Sarah is based in Switzerland and teaches Design Theory at the Zurich University of the Arts.
13:00-13:30	The language of children's writing Santosh Kshirsagar \| ΙΝΔΙΑ Santosh Kshirsagar was born in 1967. He received his BFA and MFA (by research) from Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Art, Mumbai, India. He has taught Indian (especially Devnagari) Calligraphy, Typography and visual communication design for the last 20 years at JJIAA, Mumbai. Type Design for Microsoft (first OTF for "windows xp") in Gujrathi & Oriya scripts. Illustrated talks on Indian Calligraphy in Germany, Belgium, London and Japan. His work has been exhibited in Australia and the USA as well as in Japan in collaboration with Prof. Mori Kooun. Santosh has conducted numerous workshops in India and has contributed in many publications. He acted as academic consultant to governmental organizations and many institutions. Now he is pursuing his PhD at IDC, the Indian Institute of Technology.

15:00-15:30	The Hemingway design Alessandro Segalini \| ΤΟΥΡΚΙΑ Alessandro Segalini was born in Piacenza, Italy, and currently lives in Izmir, Turkey. He is a communication designer who specializes in typography. Segalini’s design and research interests include linguistics, book and editorial design, information design, typeface design, calligraphy and lettering, visual identities and designing for multiple languages. Segalini studied design at the Polytechnic of Milan and visual communication at the University of Art and Design of Helsinki. He holds a MSc in industrial design from the Polytechnic University of Milan. Currently he is a faculty member at Izmir University of Economics VCD department focusing on typographic design and design education. He is member of the editorial board of Multi, the RIT journal of diversity and plurality in design.
15:30-16:00	On Wearing: a critical interpretive framework on design’s already made Alison Gill \| ΑΥΣΤΡΑΛΙΑ Το βιογραφικό του ομιλητή είναι διαθέσιμο μόνο στην αγγλική γλώσσα. Dr Alison Gill lectures in visual communication design in the School of Communication Arts at the University of Western Sydney, Australia. Her PhD was titled “Wearing Clothes” and explored intersections in fashion writing, critical theory and philosophies of embodiment. Alison has written about design, visual and fashion culture for Fashion Theory and Form/Work, and her research interests in material culture have been recently explored in two articles on athletic shoes for the anthologies Shoes: A History from Sandals to Sneakers (2006) and Design Studies: A Reader (2009). Abby Lopes \| ΑΥΣΤΡΑΛΙΑ Το βιογραφικό του ομιλητή είναι διαθέσιμο μόνο στην αγγλική γλώσσα. Dr Abby Mellick Lopes lectures in design within the School of Communication Arts at the University of Western Sydney, Australia. She received her PhD from the University of Sydney in 2005 and has a background in design and cultural theory. Her PhD thesis explored image ecologies and their material impacts. Her primary academic and industrial experience is in design for sustainability, which was nurtured in her work as a researcher and educator with the EcoDesign Foundation from 1996–2004. She has published widely on design for sustainability issues, most recently a co-authored piece on socio-technical change for Design Philosophy Papers (#3 2009).
16:00-16:30	And next on… An investigation into the brand identity of CyBC Γιώργος Σουγλίδης \| ΚΥΠΡΟΣ George is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Design and Applied Multimedia at the University of Nicosia, and Creative Director at Ioannou + Souglides. He has a Bachelor degree in Industrial Design from Kingston University and an MA in Communication Design from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. George delivered successful communication solutions to a number of clients including WK Thomas, The Bank of Cyprus, British American Tobacco, BoConcept and the European Refugee Fund. He has designed products and brand identities for the Cypriot as well as the international market and his work has been included in design exhibitions in Switzerland, France, Italy, the UK, and Cyprus. Μαριάννα Καφαρίδου \| ΚΥΠΡΟΣ Marianna Kafaridou is an Associate Professor. She holds a BA in Visual Communications, a Master degree in Education, a Diploma in Civil Engineering and a Diploma in Dance Studies. She has served as the coordinator of the Design Department of the University of Nicosia for seven years. She has also been a part time faculty at the Cyprus University of Technology. Her art work and research have been accepted in International Conferences and Art Festivals. Her research interests include meanings and functions of type formats, design theories and their translation within the visual language of graphic design, and the sign system of typography. Andreas Tomblin \| ΚΥΠΡΟΣ Andreas Tomblin received a first class BA Hons degree in Graphic Design (specialization, Illustration) from Leicester Polytechnic UK, and an MA with commendation from De Montfort University UK, in design and manufacture. He has exhibited his work in group and solo exhibitions at galleries in the UK and Cyprus and also produced illustration and graphics work for various UK and international clients. His Illustration work has been featured in Graphics International magazine and The AOI Creative Review illustrators annual. In 2009 he had an academic project selected and published in the Steven Heller and Lita Talarico’s book, “Design School Confidential”. He has lectured at various universities within the UK and from 2003 at the University of Nicosia, Cyprus, in the department of Design and Multimedia. Ανδρέας Ιωάννου \| ΜΕΓΑΛΗ ΒΡΕΤΑΝΙΑ Andreas is an independent brand strategist. He always aims to deliver thoughtful brands that stand the test of time and that create brand equity. He is based in London and has worked for international blue chip clients including: Ajman Bank (UAE): holistic brand strategy for the corporation and brand strategy for the bank’s credit cards which led to ‘the most creative card in the Middle East'; Brand Driver (UK): brand strategy, including a set of new brand values for the London-based research consultancy and The Keys (Portugal): naming and brand positioning for the luxurious real estate complex in Portugal. Andreas has a First Class degree in Typography & Graphic Communication from the University of Reading and an MBA from London Business School. He worked for the international brand consultancy Siegel & Gale and consulted at Landor and Rareform.

Jorge M. L. Brandão Pereira is an Assistant Professor at Instituto Politécnico do Cávado e Ave, Barcelos, since 2008, teaching in the Degree Course in graphic design. He is also a member of ID+ Research Institute for Design, Media and Culture. Jorge has a MA in Multimedia Arts and a BA degree in Communication Design/Graphic Arts from the Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto, He has studied (Erasmus) at the Muthesius Hochschule in Kiel, Germany and works currently on his PhD. He acts mainly in the areas of graphic design and production.
