Costis Dallas
Chairman and senior researcher of criticalpublics.com, and lecturer in the Dept of Communication and Mass Media, Panteion University, where he teaches courses on arts management, museum communication and cultural heritage informatics. Elisabeth Georgiadou
Elisabeth Georgiadou studied Graphic Arts and Photography in the Technological Institute of Athens. She has completed her Masters degree in Image Studies at the University of Kent at Canterbury and has awarded a PhD in Educational Hypermedia from De Montfort University, UK (thesis: "Web-based Courseware in Higher Education: A Proposed Framework", 1998). Her research was presented at a number of international conferences. She now works in Greece as a teacher of Graphic Arts and Computing in secondary education and as a part-time lecturer in Technological Institute of Thessaloniki persuing her research on the field of educational hypermedia systems and the evaluation of these systems.

Sign system and information design management

Panayiotis Haratzopoulos
Cannibal was established in the beginning of 1996. The company's initial founders were Panayiotis Haratzopoulos and Yiannis Kouroudis both of which are leading professionals in the field of graphic and typeface design. Two widely experienced and acknowledged designers, Yiannis Karlopoulos and Dimitris Arvanitis, joined the company later on and enriched Cannibal's typeface collection with both original and derivative typeface designs. Several significant designers such as Takis Katsoulidis, Hector Haralambous, Aggelos Bakas, Vlasis Fotinos, Konstantinos Spaliaras, Paris Koutsikos and Vladimir Radibratovic, all posessing excellent knowledge in typography, joined Cannibal during the following years. During the past three years Cannibal has signed exclusive distribution and hellenization agreements with some of Europe's and America's leading typeface companies such as Agfa Monotype, International Typeface Corporation, Fontshop International and Emigre Graphics. Through these co-operations Cannibal succeded in keeping up-to-date with all the latest developments in the software and computer technology fields, specializing in the design and distribution of typefaces, which cover all designers’ creative and technical needs.

Justin Howes
Justin Howes is a typographer, type designer, and historian. Recent book design projects have included the British Library’s new study of 'The Doves Press', by Marianne Tidcombe, an edition of William Tyndale's New Testament, and bibliophile editions for the Roxburghe Club. He is Chairman of the Friends of St Bride Printing Library. In 1998 ITC released his ITC Founder's Caslon, and he has since completed the series with an additional eleven sizes, marketed exclusively through H. W. Caslon & Company Limited. He co-edited Edward Johnston’s 'Lessons in Formal Writing' (1986), has written the definitive account of 'Johnston's Underground Type' (2000).

John Hudson  
Co-founder of Tiro Typeworks, Vancouver. He was awarded a special award in the 'Kyrillitsa 99' type design competition for his "outstanding contribution to the development of Cyrillic typography and international typographic communications". He has designed two new Greek sans and typefaces for Linotype Library.

Sadik Karamustafa 
More than twenty years ago he founded his own design studio, Vice President of Icograda (1995-1998), he has won more than 40 national awards for his work and the special prize in the '4th Asian Graphic Poster Triennial', Seoul, Korea in 2000. Mr Karamustafa is a member of the AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale).

Peter Karow
Co-founder of the company URW, Software & Type GmbH. He has worked on the hz-program in order to use the power of computers to improve the micro-typography of texts, has given international presentations on numerous conferences and has written many articles. He got 14 patents for DTP related methods and wrote several books (Digital Typefaces, Font Technology, Typeface Statistics).

Viktor Koen was born in 1967 in Thessaloniki, Greece. He holds a BFA from

Gerry Leonidas 
Lecturer in the Dept of Typography & Graphic Communication at the University of Reading, UK and Course Director of the MA in Typeface Design. Ole Lund 
Associate Professor, Faculty of Technology Gjovik University College, Norway, where he teaches 'Ergonomics in digital media' and 'Graphic communication and typographic design'. Alan Marshall
After fifteen years spent in various branches of the printing industry Alan Marshall obtained a Ph.D. in History from Grenoble University for a study of the development of early commercial phototypesetting. Recent editorial activities include an interactive educational computer game about Gutenberg and the invention of printing for the French multimedia producer Infogrames, the translation of Claude Mediavilla’s major study Calligraphy, and contributions to the forthcoming Dictionnaire encyclopedique du livre. He has also written extensively for various European graphic arts magazines and has organized several exhibitions (L’Imprimerie a l’ere de l’informatique ; Marius Audin, un imprimeur-erudit de l’entre-deux-guerres) and conferences (Rene Higonnet, Louis Moyroud et l'invention de la photocomposition moderne). He has recently been appointed director of the Lyon Printing Museum and is an active member of the Lyon-based Institut d'histoire du livre.

Hrant Papazian
Hrant Papazian is an Armenian native of Lebanon; his perspective on written communication was formed at the crossroads of three competing visual cultures. A multimedia designer by trade, his true love remains the black-and-white, but colorful world of non-Latin typeface design, with commissions from Agfa, Unitype, the Narod Cultural Institute and IKEA.

Anastasios Politis

Jean-Francois Porchez 
He has worked as a type director at Dragon Rouge and has created the new typeface for Le Monde newspapers (1994). He teaches type design at ENSAD/Paris and is Vice President of the AtypI. Mr Porchez regularly gives conferences, contributes to international publications and has published Lettres Françaises, a book in which all contemporary French digital typefaces are displayed.

Barry Roseman, USA 
Barry Roseman graduated from the undergraduate program at Art Centre College of Design in 1982 and completed a Master's Degree of Fine Arts in Graphic Design at Yale University in 1984. He also studied for two years in the post-graduate graphic design program at the School of Design in Basel, Switzerland. He worked for three years in corporate identity at the New York design firm, Siegel & Gale, and then decided to pursue a career in design education. He is currently an Assistant Professor at Atlanta College of Art in Atlanta, Georgia, where he teaches all of the College's typography classes in addition to courses in Basic Design and Letterform and Symbol Design.

Andreas Sophocleous
Andreas Cl. Sophocleous graduated from the Pafos gymnasium and the Paedagogical Academy of Cyprus. He studied Geography at the London University and completed an MA in Mass Communication at Denver University/USA (Fulbright scholarship). In January 1995 he got a PhD from the Department of Communication and Mass Media, Panteion University, Athens. His thesis is titled “The contribution of the First Cypriot Newspapers (1878-1883) to the Protection of Human Rights of the Greeks in Cyprus”. He has been Director of the Press and Information office of the Republic of Cyprus. He is a member of many professional and scientific unions in Cyprus and abroad and has participated in many conferences and international meetings. He has published articles and books on the Cypriot political issue, Communication, Mass Media and Geography. Since 1995 he teaches Communication and Journalism at Intercollege, Nicosia as an associate professor and is conducting research on the History of the Cypriot press.

Kostas Staikos 
Architect and a well-known book collector, he has been largely involved in research on greek printing history. He has published books such as the Chart of Greek printing: 15th century and The printed Greek books in Vienna 1749-1800.

Paul Stiff 
Reader in Typography & Graphic Communication at the University of Reading, UK. Founder editor of Typography papers, the annual book-length collection and editor of Information Design Journal (1989-2000).

Jannis Stefanakis 
Publisher of the magazine Neo Epipedo (since 1989), he organized the first 'Panhellenic Comics Festival' in Athens and also established the Heirokinito publications. He has published four collector's books about the poetry of famous poets illustrated by his engravings and has produced the Apokalypsi tou Ioannou (folio size), where seven coloured woodcuts were included as well as a sketch and four engravings for E. Kaknavatos' Akari. Mr Stefanakis has taught illustration and free-hand sketching at AKTO college in Athens. He now works as an educator and teaches free-hand sketching and painting at art studios in Rethymno, Crete.

Ìaria Tsantsanoglou
Maria Tsantsanoglou has graduated from the Department of English Literature, Aristotle University, Thessaloniki. She holds a PhD in Russian Literature, Lomonosov University, Moscow. She has done research on the Russian Avant-garde, especially worked on visual poetry and the Cubofuturistic book as a product of a synthesis of arts. Maria has served as a Press Attache at the Greek Embassy in Moscow and since 1995 teaches at the Lomonosov University, Moscow. She has organized exhibitions of contemporary art in Moscow and in Greece. Today she works as the curator of the Costakis collection at the State Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki and teaches Russian Culture of the 20th century at the University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki. She has translated Russian classic and contemporary texts into Greek.
Typographic experiments in the period of the Russian avant-garde, 1910-1934

Michael Twyman  
Emeritus Professor of Typography & Graphic Communication at the University of Reading, UK. His research focuses on 19th century printing, and specifically on the early history of lithography. Among his books are included: Lithography 1800-1850, Printing 1770-1970, Early lithographed books, Early lithographed music and The British Library guide to printing. Professor Twyman has recently completed and edited Maurice Rickard's The Encyclopedia of ephemera.

Vangelio Tzanetatou 
She has studied bookbinding and book restoration at the London College of Printing. Over the past decade she has been working in the rare book restoration field as well as a bookbinder designer. Some of her work has been exhibited in group exhibitions in Greece and in other european countries.

Gerard Unger 
Graphic designer, typographer and type designer who also teaches at the University of Reading and the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. He has been designing digital typefaces since 1974 (such as Flora, Swift 2.0, Amerigo, Oranda, Argo, Gulliver, Paradox and Coranto). Professor Unger is responsible for the typeface for the new Dutch road signs and a signage system for Rome was based on his typeface Capitolium. He was awarded with the 'H.N. Werkman Prize' and the 'Maurits Enschedeé Prize'.

Panos Vassiliou
Panos Vassiliou has conducted numerous seminars for leading Canadian companies and institutions such as Bank of Nova Scotia, Royal Bank and Sony Canada. Two years after his graduation from the University of Toronto he pursued a teaching career at George Brown College, Canada, first in the Information Systems Department and later in the Media & Graphic Arts Department. He has been co-founder and Creative Director for the Canadian design firm AdHaus, former Publisher of the monthly magazine DNA and Secretary-General for the Hellenic Canadian Congress (Ontario), in charge of cultural and community affairs. Has been designing typefaces since 1993, including commercial fonts as well as commissions from DDB, National Geographic and IKEA. He established Parachute in 1999 as a collaboration of creative minds around the world, in order to offer premium quality fonts to professionals in the graphic arts industry. Two Parachute typefaces, PF ManicAttack and PF Libera, have recently won the national type design competition “EVGE awards 2002”.

Vlassis Vellios 
He has worked as a freelance professional designer in many fields until 1971 and has contributed in developing AKTO, an educational institution in Greece in the field of Art & Design. He has been President of the National Union of Schools of Arts for 10 years. In 2000 he became Emeritus Dr of the Middlesex University in the field of educational organizing and planning.

Evripides Zantides
Evripides Zantides has a B.A degree in Graphic Communication and a Masters Degree in Graphic Fine Arts. He has worked as a graphic designer and he has been involved in a number of international exhibitions. His work, as a graphic fine artist, has been shown in England, Italy, Greece and Cyprus. He is the Country Delegate of Cyprus for ATypi and a Senior Lecturer of Graphic Communication at Intercollege, in Nicosia, Cyprus.
