Jon Ashmann
Professor Jon Ashmann has taught in the Visual Communication Program at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb for the past 22 years. Prior to teaching at Northern, he was an instructor for five years at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Institute of Design. In addition, he has been an adjunct professor and visiting designer at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago over a period of twenty years. He has received international recognition for his design, having worked for over 40 Chicago and national companies. In 1995 he was honored with recognition for excellence in teaching at Northern Illinois University, and in 1999 he received the "Above and Beyond Award" from the American Institute of Graphic Arts Chicago Chapter for his advocacy for design and contributions on the board and education committee. Jon Ashmann has been invited to give numerous lectures across the United States at conferences and other events. He has the distinction of lecturing in Europe, Africa, Asia, North America and the South Pacific and having travelled to over 70 countries worldwide. As a frequent guest at the Accademia di Comunicazione in Milan, Italy; he has conducted many lectures and workshops over the past ten years. In addition, he has directed fifteen short-term study programs in the countries of England, France, Spain, Switzerland and Italy. Two years earlier, a smaller scale one-person show was exhibited in Joao Pessoa, Brazil at the Universidade Federal da Paraiba. In March of 2002, he was invited to complete a one-person show at the Silpakorn University Gallery in Bangkok, Thailand. This show, titled "Second Chance "featured fifty drawings illustrating his experience with a life threatening illness.
