Efrossini Roupa
Historian of applied arts and design. Graduated from the University of Minnesota, U.S.A. (Bachelor degree: History of Arts, School of Liberal Arts. M.A.: School of Design, Housing and Apparel). The subject of her Master thesis (1997) pertained to Applied arts in Greece and the Reform Movement at the end of the 19th century with an emphasis on the country’s first attempt to produce products with Greek aesthetics. Her Masters thesis provided her with the background for a number of studies that followed. Among them: The history of bourgeois furniture in Greece 1830-1940, a century of setting design canons (National Metsovion Polytechnic, 2003, in cooperation with Prof. George Parmenithis), “An attempt to reform the Greek bourgeois dress at the end of the 19th century”, “Tapestry production in Thessaloniki in the Mid-war period” -both published in the scientific periodical Thessalonikeon Polis-, The History of the International Fair of Thessaloniki, 1925-2000 (2000, in cooperation with Dr. Evaghelos Hekimoglou) and other. In the years that followed she published a number of studies among which The history of the industry of food production in Greece (2006), The history of entreupreneurialship in Thessaloniki, early in the 20th century (2004), in which the area’s most important industries and businessmen are presented, and other. Both in cooperation with Dr. Evaghelos Hekimoglou. The aim is to provide an all-inclusive view of Greek design and το present not only the aesthetic trends but the political, social and economic factors that influence their development as well as the methods of production and the technology involved, for which so little is known. Currently she is working on The History of car trade and production in Greece, 1894-1984 (in cooperation with Dr. Evaghelos Hekimoglou). For years she lectured at various institutions: the School of Industrial Design (Τ.Ε.Ι. Kozani), the School of Dress Design and Production (Τ.Ε.Ι. Κilkis), at Applied Art Studies and elsewhere. |
